Vintage Systems

Truth be told, today's computers have almost no personality. Sure, system builders have done some fun stuff with LED lighting, fun cases, water cooling and the like, but the guts are still pretty much the same from machine to machine. Windows, Apple, Linux and more all run on pretty much the same hardware and it's all common, bland stuff.

This was not the case at the dawn of the Personal Computer revolution. When 8 bit processors were the norm and 64K was the most memory you could use the systems of the day were all unique.

Just look at the trio of machines formally introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in 1979. The Apple ][, Commodore Pet and the Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I were each completely unique and totally incompatible with each other.
